The brightly colored Bolivian handcrafted pillows and throws

These exquisite pillows and throws are hand-crafted by Bolivian artisans, and the fabric for each carries a rich history. When crafting the pillows, the materials used for each are vintage blankets, each averaging more than 30 years old. The blankets and fabrics all originated in the Bolivian Altipano.

The beautiful hand-woven throws

The blankets are woven by hand on stake-looms, and each one is the creation of not just of the weaver herself but of her entire family. The duties are shared among family members, from shearing the sheep to dyeing the colors of the wool, and, as important as weaving itself, the spinning and plying of the yarn. All of these tasks require a highly skilled hand, making each step a true craft in itself.

Although it is not clear in every case who was the original blanket weaver, this type of blanket is highly regarded in this region of Bolivia. These blankets are the prized possession of every household, and many young marrying couples receive one of these as a dowry or wedding gift.

Each pillow is one-of-a-kind, made from vintage blankets

The Sundance collection of pillows has been curated from a selection of many blankets we think are the best to use in making these one-of-a-kind pillows and throws. As with all vintage items, the beauty of these items lies in the patina of their rich history and the story each has to share.
