20th Anniversary Jewelry Artisan Spotlight: Nava Zahavi

by - Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Twenty years ago, we launched the first Sundance Jewelry Catalog dedicated to the artistry and beauty of jewelry making. Showcasing artisans and their craft from all over the world, the jewelry catalog quickly attracted loyal customers who appreciate the authenticity and originality of its collection. Two decades later, as Sundance continues to celebrate the community of jewelry artists who express their individual spirit of creativity through inspired use of mix metals and gemstones, color and form, Sundance is renowned for the unique yet timeless pieces that the artists offer.

To commemorate the anniversary, we will be posting several blog posts featuring some of our favorite artists. This week, we are featuring Sundance artisan Nava Zahavi. Nava Zahavi is drawn to gemstones that evoke sea, sky and sand, often enveloping them in the sunlit warmth of 24 kt gold. Rambles through antique markets around the world awakened Nava Zahavi's gift for reinterpreting the adornments of ancient civilizations. The influence of artisans from centuries past can be seen in each of her creations, as well as the crystalline hues of her Mediterranean homeland.

Sundance: How did you get started as a jewelry artist?
Nava Zahavi: I have been in the Jewelry business for about 20 years now. Prior to launching my inspired 24 Kt gold and gemstone line, I began a collection of antique reproduction Jewelry lines. Victorian-era pieces that I found in all of Europe's flea markets were my inspiration, which naturally influenced my present Jewelry.

SD: What are your favorite materials to use?
NZ: My Favorite Materials are 24 Kt Pure Gold - just as it comes in Nature! Loving Nature and what that world gives us, I was attracted to gemstones like a magnet. My favorites gemstones are the Aquamarine, Emerald, Ruby and Tourmaline.

SD: Does your collection change seasonally?
NZ: My collection changes seasonally according to the colors and different emotions the new season brings in. I definitely work with my gut feelings and moods. I am a very emotional and energetic person and people tell me it shows in my Jewelry art as well.

SD: What is your inspiration? Can you show concept board or images you use?
NZ: I draw inspiration from nature. Some of these photos are examples of where I draw inspiration from.

SD: Can you give us any more information about yourself that would be cool to know?
NZ: I am happily married for 44 years now. I have three children and six of the most beautiful and smart grandchildren, with another baby coming soon…. This is by far my biggest joy and inspiration in life. It is the most wonderful achievement, and I am thankful for each one to be in my family and a part of my Life.
