Mount Timpanogos at Sundance Resort; photo credit: Sundance Resort

Since our founding in the fall of 1989, the Sundance Catalog has been dedicated to enriching the American experience. The Sundance lifestyle is one of authenticity, freedom and creativity, yet rich in heritage and storytelling.

This year, as we celebrated our 25th anniversary, we invited you to experience the vision of Sundance first hand. We offered prizes to five lucky winners, three Grand Prizes, one Second Prize and one Third Prize.

Complete a holiday tree with hand-blown Egyptian ornaments

There is a delicate art to crafting goods by hand. The time, care and attention to detail are apparent in each piece created. Artisans become masters at their craft, and this type of workmanship is truly evident in the glass blown tree ornaments produced by Egyptian artisans.

Setting up a decorated tree at the top of a mountain isn't as easy as it looks...

One fact of which you may not be aware: we shoot ahead of season - fall in the spring, spring in the fall. The Holiday book is shot from May to June. It is always something I have to plan for, making the season seem believable. Fortunately, at high elevations (knock-on-wood) the snow remains late in the season, perfect for the festive feeling we need.

Rizzo makes it look easy, relaxing while shooting the Holiday catalog

As the weather becomes colder and the end of the year draws near, we prepare for another festive holiday season.

This month, we would like to introduce you to our good friend, Rizzo. She is one of our featured canine models. You can see Rizzo in this year's Holiday catalog, as well as on the website. Rizzo is a lot of fun, and she was a joy to have at the shoot.

Ankle Boots from Sundance

How to Wear Your Ankle Boots

Whether you call them booties or ankle boots, we love everything about this fall favorite. It’s a special family of footwear, sitting at a height that falls between the mid-calf boot and the shootie (which dips below the ankle). The appeal of the booties are their versatile design - they can take your independent sense of style and run with it straight through the season.

Fall's changing leaves, the brilliant hues of the aspen trees

Fall is one of our favorite times of the year. The air is crisp; the leaves of the aspen trees turn to beautiful hues of orange, red and yellow; the morning fog sits dreamily on the mountain peaks. It’s also the perfect time to get out and enjoy the scenery while hiking, fishing or mountain biking.

Jake, One of the Dogs of Sundance

For Sundance, dogs are an integral part of our organization. Our offices are dog friendly, and we love to see them sniffing around the halls or curled up under a desk. We regularly feature the dogs of Sundance in catalogs, so if you remember seeing them grace the pages in the past, you now know those are Sundance family dogs.

Old Gringo Boots
Handcrafted Heritage - The Authentic Boot Collection

Nothing captures the mood of fall like a pair of beautiful leather boots. At Sundance, we consider them a staple of our style. Just pulling them on brings to mind autumn’s quintessential sensations: the spicy aroma of apple cider; the crunch of dry leaves underfoot; the sway of a hayride under a glowing harvest moon.

Made just for Sundance, this throw celebrates a dozen years of collaboration between us and the master knitters of Bosnia and Herzegonia.

In our 25 years, we’ve had the great privilege to work with many wonderful artists and craftspeople. These Bosnian artisan women are one such group.

Group shot underneath Delicate Arch, a 65-foot tall freestanding natural arch, one of the many highlights in Arches National Park. This 45-minute hike doesn’t disappoint. I won’t get into where our photo assistant had to climb for this shot...

Our Creative Director waxes poetically about the 25th Anniversary Fall Catalog shoot

“You are SOOOOO lucky - you get to travel to the most unbelievable places...” As the Creative Director at Sundance, I hear this a lot. Well. I can’t really argue with the sentiment. Sure, going on location for photo shoots is hard work, but I get to travel to Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Mexico... and most recently, Sundance’s backyard - Utah - it could be worse.

As we celebrate 25 wonderful years, we enjoy reflecting on some of our favorite covers and in particular, our very first cover mailed in Fall 1989. This magnificent shot was taken overlooking Sundance located at the base of the majestic Mt. Timpanogos in the Wasatch mountain range, UT. With this cover and many more to follow, each reflect the pledge to freedom, creativity and artistry.

Painting of Mount Timpanogos by our CEO, Matey, at the Art Shack, Sundance Village

It all started at the place, Sundance, Utah. A glorious place in the mountains, a perfect host for the inspiration of new ideas. A place carefully nurtured, preserved and cherished; to be enjoyed by all. A place where storytelling is rich and has no limits.
